# Hysteresis

Hysteresis is an [RSSI](/glossary/r/rssi) value that indicates how much greater the signal strength of a neighboring [access point](/glossary/a/ap) must be in order for the client to switch to it.

The hysteris value may  be useful to prevent too much roaming between access points when a client is located between two access points.
