DHCP – Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol

A device can be used as a DHCP server to automatically assign an IP address to each computer or device on a network.

DCHP is used for both [ipv4](/glossary/i/ipv4) and [ipv6](/glossary/i/ipv6).
