# ISAKMP

Internet Security Association and Key Management Protocol - ISAKMP - is a [protocol](/glossary/p/protocol) for establishing [Security Associations](/glossary/s/sa) and cryptographic keys Internet.

It provides a framework for [authentication](/glossary/a/authentication) and exchange of security keys that is not dependent on a particular implementation.
