# VLAN Tag

The VLAN Tag (VLAN ID) is a method to identify the which [VLAN](/glossary/v/vlan) a packet belongs to.

Devices use the VLAN ID to determine which [port(s)](/glossary/p/port), or [interface(s)](/glossary/n/network_interface), to send a [multicast](/glossary/m/multicast) packet to.
